Oh, the magic of Christmas time as seen through a young child’s eye. Part of that magic is the anticipation of Santa Claus. I remember writing letters to Santa as a young girl, hoping that he received my letter in time, and, that I was on the “nice” list. On Christmas morning, I would have butterflies in my stomach as I ran out to see what he had left under the tree. Those are some of my best memories of Christmas. I really wanted to bring some of that magic and joy back this year and share with you my “Santa’s Mailbox.” At the end of the post, I will have a freebie printout of a Letter to Santa for your child to fill out. Also, there will be a link to the U.S.P.S. website where they have all the information on how to mail the letter and receive a letter back from Santa with a North Pole Postmark. This program is time sensitive, however The mail by date is December 8th in order for your child to receive the letter from Santa in return. So we better get started!
Here is the materials list. You can download the list here.
I purchased the mailbox, wood plaque, picks, and chalkboard paint at Hobby Lobby, but you can find these at most big box stores.
I started out painting the oval plaque with the chalkboard paint according to the directions on the bottle.
I used hot glue to adhere the plaque to the mailbox.
Now, we are ready to decorate it! I used floral wire to tie the picks together to make it easier to attach to the mailbox.
In addition to the wire, I also used a little hot glue to attach the stems together.
I felt the mailbox needed a festive bow, which will also cover the stems of the picks.
I used hot glue to secure the picks and the bow to the backside of the mailbox.
The chalkboard paint was now ready to “prime.” I just used regular white chalk and rubbed it all over the plaque.
Then erased.
The chalkboard is now ready to write “Letters to Santa” or whatever you would like it to say.
I added a lock where only Santa has the key. (Wink, Wink!)
Cute! Right?
I love how it looks with my Christmas decor.
As promised here is the freebie download for the “Letter to Santa!” You can download it here.
Here is the link to the United States Postal Service Letters from Santa program. I hope you look into this wonderful program. It could really add some special memories for your children during this magical time.
