Hey guys!
I am super excited about this project! Not sure if it’s because it’s a beautiful piece or because it’s Christmas!! Well, either way, it’s a great day! At the end of this post I have another freebie download for you! You’ll want to check it out! Let’s just say it’s a time saver!
Here are the materials that I used to make this chalkboard wood slice. You can download the list here.
To get started, I used my tape measure and pencil to draw one inch tick marks around the wood slice. I then connected the dots to get my outline for the chalk paint. I wanted to leave a border, but you can just paint the whole side of you want.
Be sure to follow the instructions on the chalk paint bottle. I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby and it said to paint in one direction first, wait one hour, then paint in the other direction (horizontally and vertically.)
Once I let my chalk board paint dry 24 hours, I “primed” the board by rubbing chalk all over it. I erased it and now it is ready to use.
And of course, I couldn’t just let it be plain. LOL! I had to add some doodles around the edge to fancy it up. The next few pictures are a close-up of the progress. I started out with simple marks. Then, I embellished them a little more using a chalk pen. The pen is permanent so be sure to have your design the way you like it before using.
I added a Christmas pick and simple bow made from ribbon I purchased from Hobby Lobby. I attached them using hot glue. You can add a wall hanger to the back of the wood slice if you want to hang it or just simply place it in an easel. I used regular chalk to write the remaining days to Christmas.
And, that’s it guys! What do you think? Leave me a comment below.
As promised, here is the freebie download I mentioned. It is a printout of some doodles that you can add to the border of your wood slice! This will save you some time and aggravation in drawing them. Yay! Anytime I can save time and aggravation is a win win! Download here.
Here is the Facebook Live where you can watch me do a live demo.
Happy Crafting!
